how to sync your business w/ your monthly cycle
As an empath, energetics strongly influence how you take action, and one of the easiest ways to begin working with energy is to begin tuning into the cycles that affect us as individuals + as a collective.
A few I track in my life and business are:
Menstrual: a cycle influenced by hormonal changes within our bodies
Moon: a cycle influenced by changes in phases of the moon
Astrological: a cycle influenced by planetary shifts, represented by the zodiac (for example, “Aries season”)
Not only can these cycles guide you in terms of when you need to take action or rest, they can also act as a compass for intuitively connecting with your next steps. If you’re new to working with cycles, I’ve added a few questions below to get you started!
MENSTRUAL
Do you bleed on a new moon, full moon, waning moon, waxing moon or another time of the month? (The easiest way to know is to search the current position of the moon the next time you start your period.)
If you bleed on a full moon, your moon cycle is known as a Red Moon. The Red Moon has often been called the ‘wise woman’s cycle’ because if you bleed on a full moon or are in a season of bleeding on a full moon, you are being called to share your gifts outwardly to help others. This cycle has a summer-like energy where you’re in a phase of being bright and visible to those in need of your work.
If you bleed on a new moon, your moon cycle is known as a White Moon. This cycle is associated with a need to pull your energy inward to mother yourself, children or a new project. If you bleed on a new moon or are in a season of bleeding on a new moon, you are being called to focus on your private life (for example, taking a break from your healing work to raise children or spend time nurturing a new relationship or idea.) This cycle has a winter-like energy where you’re in a phase of hibernation and renewal.
If you bleed on a waxing moon (between the new moon and full moon), your moon cycle is known as a Pink Moon. A waxing moon occurs after a new moon and is considered a transitional period — if you are bleeding in this time, it symbolizes you being in a transitional phase of your life. Because the waning moon occurs after a new moon (when the sky is the darkest), bleeding during this time symbolizes coming out of a darker, more quiet, wintering phase of your life. This cycle has a spring-like energy where you’re in the process of blooming into a bigger version of yourself or your life.
If you bleed on a waning moon (between the full moon and new moon) your moon cycle is known as a Purple Moon. The waning moon occurs after a full moon when the moon is transitioning into a new moon —a time of approaching a darker, more quiet, reflective stage of your life. If you bleed on the waxing moon, you are approaching a more quiet phase of reassessment to get clear on what is and is no longer serving you. This cycle has an autumn-like energy where you’re in the process of releasing all that cannot go forward with you.
MOON PHASES
Another great way to work with the moon, aide from tracking your menstrual cycle, is to begin living in flow with the giving and receiving energies of the moon itself.
The full moon is a time for things coming to light, making it a time for suppressed thoughts and emotions to surface to be witnessed and worked through. For many this includes physical pain. (For example, I’ll often get pain in certain areas of my body as alerts for what healing themes I’m meant to be working through.) When the moon is full you’re also able to see more clearly what no longer aligns with your life and goals — and because of that the full moon is a great time for releasing what no longer serves you. The new moon, on the other hand, is the opposite, a time when the sky is most dark. New moons are for planting seeds (intentions) for what you want to work towards by the next Full Moon. It’s normal to lack clarity around new moons as it’s a time for reflection and contemplation around new ideas and possibilities, rather than a time to take action steps.
When the moon is full, ask yourself:
What am I feeling called to let go of?
What is no longer supportive of the life I am wanting to create for myself?
When the moon is new, ask yourself:
What new beginning am I feeling called towards?
What would I like to see happen in my life?
To take this practice further you can also look at the astrological sign the new and full moons are in to get even more guidance on what to begin to let go of and what to allow in. For example, if the new moon is in Aries, you might look up Aries and see that it is associated with courage and bravery and decide that you are ready to feel more courageous when sharing about your small business. If the full moon is in Pisces and you learn that Pisces is associated with codependency, you might realize that it’s time for you to release the codependent patterns that are keeping you stuck in toxic relationships.

ASTROLOGICAL
A final cycle I love to work with is the astrological seasons. The astrological cycle is a cycle made up of 12 zodiac signs or “seasons” that take place over the timespan of a year.
What’s most important to know about working with the astrological cycle is that each sign has a specific energy (kind of like a personality) and so does its season. For example, Cancer is associated with the home and the mother/child bond. During this season from June 21-July 22 you might feel called to make changes to your home office or book a childhood regression to revisit childhood memories and the beliefs you took on that hold you back from your desires as an adult.
Another example is Capricorn season that’s associated with discipline and the daily habits required to reach our big goals. During this season, December 22-January 19, it’s normal to be goal oriented and start making the changes you’ve been putting off.
Another thing that’s helpful to know about the astrological seasons is that ½ of the signs are feminine and ½ are masculine. During masculine seasons we take on more of a masculine approach to our lives, whereas in a feminine season we are more focused on living from more of a feminine perspective. A great example of this is that during masculine seasons we tend to speed up and be more outwardly expressed, whereas in feminine seasons we tend to slow down and focus our energies inward.
Curious to learn more about astrological seasons and how they might be affecting you? I share about astrological themes often on The Empath Podcast!
Following these cycles not only tells you why you are inspired in different ways throughout the year, but also when you are going to want to take outward action and when you’d rather slow down and rest.
