letting yourself hatch–The four stages of building an offer

Since writing my first blog post back in 2016, I’ve had many people reach out asking me how to overcome the fear of putting their ideas out there + sharing their creations online. My best advice — be compassionate with yourself and know that, like a baby bird, our ideas go through their own hatching process as they make their way into the world.

phase 01 — incubation

Your idea is still ‘inside an egg’ - fragile + needs nurturing.

You’re in the process of deciding the details + getting clear on what your offer will include and who it is for. Doing things assessing your audience’s needs, or listening to your inner pulls and the messages from your spirit based on your passions + what feels exciting to you.

In this phase it’s common to:

  • feel unsure of your true purpose

  • wonder how you’ll fit all of your passions into an offer

  • worry if your idea will actually be viable + profitable as a business

phase 02 — ready to hatch

The idea is mostly formed + ready to hatch into the world (but hasn’t yet)

Like a baby bird who needs to destroy its own comfort zone by chipping away at the inside of the egg to hatch itself - this phase can feel the scariest, but is the most important to push through and start sharing.

In this phase it’s common to:

  • feel like you’re not ready, don’t know enough, website isn’t perfect yet..

  • be too tired or no longer motivated to show up for the work you started (a sneaky form of self-protection known as self-sabotage)

  • fear failure + worry about what other people will think

phase 03 — hatchling

The offer is in its hatchling stage of awkwardly stumbling into the world, perfectly imperfect

This is when you begin to launch your offer, and when it’s at its most vulnerable because it cannot yet fly on its own. This is when positive reinforcement and boundaries for protection are vital.

In this phase it’s common to:

  • feel really vulnerable + exposed

  • experience impostor syndrome + feeling like a fraud

  • have a desire to hide and protect your work, especially from people you know

phase 04 — fully formed

The offer is hatched and fully formed.

This is when your offer is ready to fly on its own. Your focus shifts from building the offer to finding the souls that need your work. You're testing launch strategies, and you’re getting your offer out into different communities.

In this phase it’s common to:

  • feel more confidence and desire to grow + be seen for your work

  • want to better articulate what you do

  • have a desire for more consistency in profit and schedule

  • be ready for better systems and workflow
